French Cheese + Champagne

Craving something indulgent or want to spoil someone special? This is the pack for you. We’ve selected three decadent French cheeses and paired them with French Champagne. When pairing with champagne creamy cheeses work best, we’ve selected three of our favourite French ones.

Petit Munster AOP - This traditional cheese from the Vosges Mountains of Northern France was once known as ‘white meat’ by the monks who developed it. It is matured for two months in humid mountain cellars where the rind is regularly washed in brine. Famous for its pungent smell and sticky orange rind, the interior is a fine soft and smooth consistency, with a mild creamy, meaty and slightly sweet flavour. Locally the cheese is often eaten with cumin seeds.

Le Secret des Lys (in ceramic) - made near the village of Cleron high in the mountains of the Franche-Comte region by the Perrin family, Le Secret des Lys is a fragile cheese that is matured in a small ceramic dish which enables the cheese to hold its form as it slowly ripens. The evoking fresh earthy and mushroom aromas of the rind give way to buttery and creamy flavours on the palate, finishing with a very slight citrus tang that is void of any bitterness. Its dense cake-like texture dissipates quickly to an almost melt-in-the-mouth like quality which can be quite moreish once you get started! The little terracotta pot which Le Secret des Lys comes in can be heated. For a decadent finish to any meal remove from packaging and heat gently in the oven in it's ceramic dish prior to serving with crusty bread and champagne.

Brillat Savarin Affine selected by Will Studd - a mild triple-cream cheese that has a slightly chalky centre when young. Once ripe, the texture softens and the centre can be scooped out with a spoon.

Frerejean Frères Premiere Cru Brut NV - In the quest for authenticity and purity, Frerejean Frères only work with grape varieties from Premier Cru originating from the famous Côte des Blancs (9% of the best Champagne vines). An emblematic terroir of the region known for its
excellency – this is the only terroir to obtain 100/100 from Richard Juhin (Pol Roger, Grauves, 1928). This champagne has been selected in collaboration with wine experts from The Drink Hive.
